5 Tips for Restful Sleep

Top 5 tips for restful sleep:

  • Stop viewing any kind of blue light past 9/10pm. This means in particular hand held devices like phones, screens or tablets. The blue light signals to the brain that it is time to wake up, not wind down. If you have to look at screens late, try getting some blue light blocking glasses.

  • Have a warm shower or bath just before bed. This helps to relax your muscles, slow down your breathing and feel cleansed of all the worries and stimulation of the day.

  • Use lavender essential oil on the pillow or on your wrists/temples to help relax.

  • Use a journal to jot down anything you may be worried about, thinking of, grateful for. This way you can un clutter your head just before bed and take anything out of your mind and safe onto paper to give you clarity before you sleep

  • Use breath work to help lower your heart and respiratory rate. When lying down breathe in for 4 counts through your nose, then exhale for 8 counts. As you exhale imagine all your muscles and body sinking into the mattress. Repeat this technique until you drift off to sleep.

  • And remember try not to drink caffeine after midday.
