How to Start Journalling

Top 5 tips to start journaling:

  • Treat yourself to a new notebook and nice pen. If you feel good about the place you are sharing your thoughts you are more likely to treat it like a ritual and something special. This allows you to feel good about yourself and raise your self worth at the same time.

  • If you are new to journaling try using some prompts to help you get into it. You can download Charlotte’s 28 days of generating momentum prompts here. Prompts help you spark ideas and thoughts so you aren’t just staring at a blank page.

  • Find a quiet spot to focus, maybe your bedroom or office where you know you won’t get distracted. It may feel nice to light a candle and make a real moment out of the experience. This way you are lowering stress levels and giving yourself some self care time too.

  • Try using your journal to brain dump just before bed. You don’t want to be going to sleep with lots of thoughts racing around your head. Anything you can get on paper before you sleep means you can clear your mind to help you relax. Whatever is important you can pick it back up when you read back over your notes in the morning.

  • If you are still stuck on what to write, just start with writing three things you are grateful for every day and why. Then add to that how would you like to feel by the end of the day and why. If you try this every day for a week, you can reflect back and see how differently you feel as a result.
